Our Story
Rooted in the Land, Grown with Purpose
This project began as a personal return to the land. Dr. Carlos Vega, a lifelong pediatrician, purchased a plot of land in El Cacao—named, quite fittingly, for the crop it naturally grows. What started as a hobby quickly took root. The finca sits in the Panama Canal watershed, and its cacao trees are part of a government-supported reforestation effort to restore native forest, protect water flow, and create sustainable livelihoods.
Our family took the challenge seriously. We studied fermentation. We built makeshift chocolate labs in our kitchen. We even used a vacuum cleaner to winnow beans during Panama’s humid summers. Along the way, we brought in expert consultants, sent samples for tasting, and refined our processes to meet the expectations of top-tier chocolate makers.
Today, we continue to improve our methods with each harvest. As we grow, we’re committed not only to producing excellent cacao, but also to ensuring that this project brings lasting benefits to the local community and surrounding environment.
